The Brink

A series of A4 drawings by Karolina Dema, the Brink focuses on animals on the verge of extinction. Dema’s series reflects on what is lost versus what is passed on, hopefully slowing down the process of mass extinction by spending visual time with each endangered species. 

The Brink questions humanity’s self-designated role as Earth’s gardener, reflecting on its ability to classify the living as much as its shortcomings in keeping it alive. The Brink is also an attempt at visual journalism, each drawing captioned by a headline, with the source mentioned below it. Eventually, this series will work as a foundation for future collective memories when these species are gone, valuable evidence of the planet’s past and present wonders.
