Inauguration (2021)
A series of paintings, drawings, and sketchbook images, INAUGURATION focuses on the clothes worn during the 2021 US Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20 2021, highlighting the importance of fashion to convey messages of power, unity, and emancipation. Each participant is treated as a separate subject, similar to the characters of a play.
INAUGURATION also questions the flow of visual information we are fed with on a daily basis. Painting and drawing are ways of slowing down the news cycle, by treating historical events as a source of inspiration that can be revisited over time. The drawings were made in the days following the event, weeks only after the Jan. 6 insurrection. The series was published in Feb. 2021 on Ensemble Magazine (link here).
